Wednesday men's comp was able to attract 44 players who enjoyed the sunshine and the lovely greens being prepared by the greenkeepers. Barrie Pattison and Kim Alexander were far too consistent for Col Wotton and Maurie Nugent, to win the game 15 + 25 and take out the winners' prize money.
Barry Achurch and Ian Birk were too strong for Peter Wholohan and Kerry Clarke, posting a 14 ends + 21 total to be runners-up in the event.
In a triples game, Tim Breen, Peter Kearney and Stan Campbell accounted for Bob Burnett, Bruce Gibbons and Mike Johnson 13 + 17 to run third.
Averaging up to 26 players on a Thursday evening, the twilight format seems popular. Phil Morcomb and Frank Mierczak defeated Kerry Clarke and Darryl Cooper 10 + 4 to be victors on the night.
Runners-up were Fred Crowther, and the Campbell boys Stan and Darryl, who defeated Garry Manton, Lionel Johnson and Rick Slaven 10 + 2, winning with three shots on the last end.
Saturday saw some Zone singles on the main green, some Championship singles and some social.
Socially, Lionel Johnston, Greg Quinn and Col Wotton were far too good for Darryl Wright, Bill Cullen and Kevin Shorney, winning 15 + 16 to take out the money. 13 + 15 was good enough for Jack Bennett and Les Barnes to secure runners-up, after playing Doug Smith and Ian Birk.
Zone 4 Senior Singles were scheduled at the club for Saturday and Sunday. Ross James (Bathurst City) defeated Darryl Kirkwood (Portland) 31-28. Tony Hogan (Magellan) defeated Peter Farrell (Mudgee) 31-20. Jeff Madden (City) defeated Ian Townsend (City) 32-16.
Bob Brown (City) defeated Joe Banasiak (City) 31-25. Allan Clarke (Mudgee) defeated John Perry (City) 32-21. Jeff Madden defeated Bob Brown 31-17. Tony Hogan defeated Phil Gray (Bathurst) 31-29. The two Division winners ended up Jeff Madden (City) who beat Tony Hogan 31-28 and Ross James who accounted for John Archer 31-28. They now progress to the next stage at Narromine next weekend.
The Club Championships singles are nearing completion. In one semi final Ian Townsend proved too consistent for current Champion Graeme Pitt, coming out victor 31-23, to be the first one into the final.
Col Quince and Dave Robson fought out an intriguing struggle to see who would face Al Kenniff in the other semi. Robson, one of the form bowlers of late, proved too solid and went on to win 31-19. Valuable experience was obtained by Quince as he continues to improve. Robson must now get past cousin Al Kenniff to make the final… Should be a great match… Good luck, boys.
Due to circumstances out of the club's control the Quick Set Tournament has had to be postponed 'til the commencement of daylight saving later in the year. With Pennants starting in March, and the club's centenary arrangements about to get into full swing, Lithgow City looks to be in for some busy days.
