Approximately 350 of the regions best swimmers of all ages will descend on Lithgow for the two day event.
Lithgow Swimming Club President, Pete Evans said the swimming season like most other sports had seen disruptions as a result of the COVID-19 Pandemic, with a reduction of carnivals and other restrictions.
"This is a great event for Lithgow, with many families staying in Lithgow over the weekend, spending money on accommodation and in restaurants and local shops," he said.
The Mountains and Plains region takes in swimmers from as far east as Glenbrook and includes Western towns of Lake Cargelligo, Condobolin, Parkes, Forbes and all towns in between.
The carnival will act as a warm up for many swimmers who have qualified to attend the NSW Country Championships, which will be held at Homebush the following weekend.

Lithgow Swimming currently have 45 swimming members, with many training up to six sessions per week.
"It is hoped that the weather will be kinder following the championships being abandoned mid carnival due to the weather conditions in Orange in 2020," he said.
