Westfund Health Insurance is giving Lithgow community organisations 50,000 more reasons to apply for their Community Grants Program.
The regionally-based, member-owned health insurer recently passed the milestone of 50,000 memberships.
To mark the occasion, the bi-annual Community Grants Program will have the funding for the first round in 2020 boosted by $50,000.
Westfund CEO Mark Genovese said he wanted to show support for the community that support Westfund.
"By increasing the funding available in round one, we can help a wider range of community groups and organisations who are working tirelessly to support their communities in times of need," he said.
He said with fires, floods, pandemic and now an economic recession it has been a challenging time for the community.
"If we can help, even if it's in a small way, we will be there," he said.
The funding boost will mean 16 additional grants or defibrillators as well as one major grant of $10,000, which the public will help choose.
"We're inviting our entire community to vote on the shortlisted candidates. Voting will be live on our website from August 31," Mr Genovese said.
The Westfund Community Grants Program offers Lithgow organisations the chance to apply for a grant of up to $2500.
It also includes Westfund's Here for Hearts program, which provides access to defibrillators.
Mr Genovese said the benefits had already been felt in Lithgow with a number of community organisations receiving either a grant or a defibrillator.
They include; Lithgow Women's Shed, Lithgow Information and Neighbourhood Centre, Pied Piper Pre-School Wallerawang, headspace Lithgow, Portland Central School, Can Assist Lithgow, Quota International Lithgow branch, Lithgow District Men's Shed Association, Thrive Services Lithgow, Lithgow Bears Rugby League Football Club, Lithgow Valley Pistol Club Inc., Lithgow District Junior Cricket Association, Uniting Church in Australia Lithgow Parish and the Bowenfels Charge of Presbyterian Church of Australia.
Each of these organisations were able to show that their activities improved and enhanced the local community.
Applications for round one are now open and will close on August 14. To apply online, or for more information about the eligibility criteria, head to www.westfund.com.au/grants
