The 19 year-old Meadow Flat resident will have his striking artwork of a yellow-tail black cockatoo on reusable chiller bags, set to be sold at Coles supermarkets across Australia from this week.

Will who has autism, was one of six students to win Coles' national bag design competition which aims to support the company's commitment to remove single-use plastic in its supermarkets.

Will said his design was inspired by a wild cockatoo that he rescued.

"My design is inspired by Billy, a wild cockatoo that I rescued and nursed back to health," he said.

The artwork was created while he completed year 12 at the Dubbo School of Distance Education in 2019.

Since graduating, Will has firmly established himself as an artist on the rise, winning Bathurst Regional Council's Waste 2 Art community art contest and collaborating with Lithgow's Gang Gang Gallery on its upcoming 'Beauty of the Beast' group exhibition.

Will said he was excited to see his shopping bags on sale at Coles.

"I can't wait to see the bags on sale and share the news with my friends and followers on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram," he said.

"I hope my art will touch people and inspire them to connect with the environment, land and native animals."

Coles State general manager Ivan Slunjski said the sale of reusable community bags was a win-win for Coles customers, the environment, community organisations and young artists like Will.

"We are so pleased to be able to support and celebrate local artists like Will by showcasing his work on our latest reusable bags.

"The bags will be seen and appreciated by millions of customers who shop at Coles each week," he said.
