With many teams involved and players eager to be back on the courts, here are the latest results from the first two rounds of the Lithgow Netball Association's winter competition.
Round One
Netta
Portland Lollypops: All girls enjoyed their first game for the season. Vanshika Reddy defended really well for her very first game.
Worries Diamonds: Samara and Jennifer worked very well together in the goal circle and scored many goals between them.
Division 4
Portland Pandas 1 def by Workies Rubies 33
Pandas: Maya White had some great intercepts throughout the game
Portland Popstars 22 def Wang Stars 4
Stars: Emily Reeve has stepped up from Netta, playing her first Division 4 game. Emily had an excellent game, helping move the ball down the court in WA! Well done on your first game Em!
Popstars: Marni Thompson had a fantastic first game with the Popstars, her shooting skills a phenomenal. Kelsie Handley's fast feet and defensive skills are again proving to be an excellent asset to the team.
Division 3
Vipers 13 def by Portland Hotshots 25
Portland Hotshots 31 def Portland Pocket Rockets 8
Hotshots: Bella Rhi had 2 great all round games, moving well in C.
Pocket Rockets: The girls put up a huge fight in the battle against Hotshots, showing that even though they are the youngest team in the division, they aren't going down without giving it their all! Mach Brown showed off her skills in C and then in defence. Molly Lambert proved that practice makes perfect getting in goals from a distance and Libby Bailey dominated in defence. Alirah Dunleavy defended well getting some impressive rebounds and Ashlee Cooper showed fine form with some awesome intercepts.
Division 1
Vixens 24 def by Wang Swifts 40
Both teams played a fast defensive game of netball that eithe side could have won. Swifts were a little up and down but got it together in the second half. Unfortunately, they lost GA Sophie Clarke in the 3rd quarter but came together in the 4th to take the win. It was a great effort by the girls having to play with just 7, however Charlotte Dunn's return to netball showed she hasn't lost any of her skills and along with Makaylah and Shelby, they formed a great defensive unit.
Wang Tigers 55 def Vikings 20
Tigers: Ella Houlison has some amazing skills in the goal circle, she hardly missed the ring playing GA, and her skills on the court are amazing how she able to control the ball. Ellie Pender had a fabulous game defending up in GK.
Wang Amazons 15 def by Wang Phoenix 64
Phoenix: A friendly game between Phoenix and Amazons. All Phoenix girls played well and combined well for half of the team being new this year. Alannah Stoneley defended well and Monique Rust and Carly Sharp snot well.
Amazons: Amazon's enjoyed their first game of the season. Rebecca Doble's great court coverage combined well with Kate Eagle's strategic positioning being the highlights of the game.
Round Two
Netta
Workies Diamonds: Kate McDonald played an excellent game with some great intercepts. Holly Black worked well getting the ball down the court to the goal circle. Diamonds would also like to make a special mention for the great sportsmanship shown by the Portland Lollipops GK who tied the shoelaces of the Diamonds GS when they came undone!
Division 4
Wang Star 40 def Portland Pandas 6
Stars: Emily Commins had a fantastic game this week, being quick on her feet in C and doing an excellent job feeding the ball into the circle! Well done Emily!
Pandas: Annalise Griffiths had a great game in C covering the court and making some great passes. Olivia Merlin shot some excellent goals and covered the court well.
Workies Rubies 3 def by Portland Popstars 23
Popstars: The girls had a great game this week working on passing the ball down the court with a convincing win. Savannah Green and Mia Hamilton worked the circle well with help from Ava Van Den Berg. The girls are showing great sportsmanship every week!
Division 3
Portland Pocket Rockets 10 def by Vipers 45
Portland Pocket Rockets 9 def by Portland Hotshots 37
Hotshots: Holly Livingstone had an incredible shooting game in GS for the first time. Jessica Gearside's defence was flawless, moving the court well.
Division 1
Vikings 61 def Wang Amazons 28
Amazons enjoyed a great game against Vikings with good positioning and accuracy by Clare Stuart in GA combining well with Mandy Spargo's breaks for the centre pass.
Wang Swifts 28 def by Wang Tigers 35
Tigers: Amazing team effort from all the Tigers this week, Tayla Alexander played awesome in the circle as a shooter, not missing many goals. Sophie Chatham and Annie's Taylor played fabulously in the centre court, showing their skills in defence and attack. Charlotte Jackson's defensive skills in the goal circle are second to none, unfortunately breaking her finger throughout the game!
