The Lithgow Valley Film Society is screening a new release movie this week titled 'Sometimes Almost Never' (PG, 2019) on Friday, December 6 at 10.30am and Sunday, December 8 at 2pm at the Society's Main Street cinema.
Carols by Candlelight
Lithgow, December 6
Lithgow St Paul's Anglican Church on the corner of Roy Street and Railway Parade will host a service of classic carols and the timeless Christmas story followed by family fun with face-painting, balloons, jumping castles, activities and food fronm 6.30pm.
Walk 'n' Talk
Lithgow, December 7
The last Walk 'n' Talk for Life event of the year will be held at Blast Furnace Park, with registration at 9.30am.
Toy run
District, December 7
The Lithgow district street machine enthusiasts are already collecting toys, tinned food and books to aid local charity Christmas appeal. Call Dave in Lithgow on 6352 3045, Les in Portland or Wallerawang on 0417 650 586 for pick up or drop them in by December 7 to the Bowenfels Newsagency, Bill Evans Auto Repairs, Lithgow Bearings and Industrial Supplies, R&A Chainsaws and Mowers and the Wollemi Bakery, all in Lithgow, Wallerawang Bakery or B&L Livestock & Real Estate in Portland.
Christmas Carols
Portland, December 7
Residents can gather in Saville Park for Carols by Candlelight, kicking off at 6pm. Kids can get entertained by family activities early on in the night. The carols will then begin at 7pm with locals including Casey McFarlane singing all the popular Christmas songs.
Santa photos
Hartley, December 8
Santa is set to visit the paddocks of Hartley again this year. You and your four-legged friends can have your picture taken at The Old Hartley Post Office Cafe on Sunday, Dec 8 between 9am and 10.30am.
Ukulele Group
Lithgow, every Tuesday
The Lithgow Ukulele Group meets at the back of Lithgow Library every Tuesday at 10am. All are welcome.
St John's Christmas carols
Hartley, December 8
St John's Anglican Church will host its Christmas carols and pageant at the Hartley Historic Village on Sunday, December 8 at 7pm. Supper will follow at the Royal Inn. Violin soloist Rebecca Daniel will also perform on the night.
Community carols
Lithgow, December 12
Zig Zag Public School will be hosting its annual community carols with all the trimmings at 6pm. Join in the fun of singing and the chocolate wheel before a visit from the jolly man in red.
Fri-Yay fete
Portland, December 13
Portland Central School will host a Fri-Yay Fete and fun fair from 12pm. It will include a cafe, music, art, markets, games and food. Free entry. All are welcome.
Ulysses toy run
District, December 14
The local motorcycling fraternity will again be coordinating the collection with the annual Ulysses toy run from Portland to the Cooerwull School playground. Donations up that date can be left at the Portland Newsagency, Wallerawang Bowling Club, Lithgow Bunnings, Readers Heaven, Bike Stop and Lithgow Glass, or at the school playground on December 14. Start thinking how you can help. Last Christmas the support groups struggled to accommodate all who had registered for help.
Hoskins carols
Lithgow, December 15
The Academy Singers will be back at Lithgow's Hoskins Uniting Church on Sunday, December 15 at 8pm with director Paul Terracini and accompanist Jany Andino.
Family fun day
Portland, December 14
There will be a family fun day at Mick Moore park from 10am until 12pm on Saturday.
The day will include Santa photos, a picnic lunch, a Christmas crafts table, and a table for children to write their very own letter to Santa. A bring your own picnic lunch with Santa will take place from 12-12.45pm. At 1pm there will be a free screening of 'Home Alone' by Portland Film Society at the Crystal Theatre.
Street festival
Portland, December 20
The month long Portland festivities will conclude with a street festival. The festival will take place from 6-9pm and see live entertainment, chocolate wheels, kids activities and more along Williwa Street.
Christmas Lunch
Lithgow, December 25
Each year Christmas and Beyond holds a Christmas Day lunch for anyone in the Lithgow community who wishes to attend. This year the event will once again be at the Bible Church Hall, opposite the hospital at Col Drewe Drive, South Bowenfels. Doors open at 9.30am for an extended morning tea.
