The talented athlete and league player tried out alongside a large number of boys for the opportunity.
Angus, a former player for the Lithgow Storm, said he was excited about learning more about the game and working with a variety of new coaches.
"Pop would be so proud of me," he said.
"He was a huge Parra fan and people would remember him as always wearing his Eels hat."
Sadly, Angus' grandfather passed away suddenly four months ago.
Angus' mum Sally-Anne paid tribute to Angus' former Lithgow Storm coach Pete Morris who was a huge help in teaching Angus the skills he needed, and giving him the confidence to play at this level.
Angus was the recipient of the Mod League Player of the Year for Lithgow Storm last season.
As a result of moving to Sydney for school, Angus played this season for the Wentworthville United Junior Rugby League Club in Under 13's Division 1.
Sally-Anne said he has had a very successful season, entering the team playing as a centre and then ending up playing fullback. The team made it through to the grand final, narrowly losing in the final game.
"My favourite position is centre, but I also enjoyed playing with Number 1 on my back," Angus said.
Angus was recently awarded the Mick Jordan Shield for the 2019 top try-scorer for the Wentworthville United Junior Rugby League Club.
"It was tough trying to balance my athletics and footy commitments, but I think both sports help me improve as an athlete," Angus said.
"I have a lot to learn."
The athletics has not been set aside, however.
Angus is off to the Australian All Schools track and field championships, which will be held in Perth in December.
He secured a spot in the squad after winning gold in the 13 boys javelin and gold in the 13 boys long jump.
He will also be part of the four by 100m relay team.
