Portland had not set a commanding total for Valley to chase, racking up just 55. Blake Todd was the only batsman to get double figures, hitting a creditable 34.
Valley’s Sam Johnson was enjoying the pitch – he took 5-29 in his seven overs. Wickets also went to Jono Reid (2-5), Matt Williams (1-13) and Bayden Charlton (1-8).
In reply, it looked likely that Valley would struggle to get there. After openers Steve Moore (golden duck) and Dylan Campbell (1) fell cheaply, Sam Johnson backed up from his amazing bowling spell to dig in at number six and add 24 not out to the total. He was joined by Jono Reid (13) to get the team over the line.
Nathan Williams (3-7) and Blake Todd (2-2) were the best of Portland's bowlers. Darren Moore also took one wicket.
Hartley v Lithgow Hotel 2
A top dual bowling performance by the Blanchards led Hartley to an easy win over Lithgow Hotel 2 on Saturday.
Mitch Blanchard took care of the top of the order, taking 4-30, while Josh Blanchard knocked out the lower order, taking five wickets for just three runs.
Lithgow Hotel 2's Jason Murray (33) was the top-scorer for the team, with Dan Hine contributing 10. The team fell for 58 runs.
In reply, Hartley lost one wicket on their way to finish on 64. Liam Keith (29) and Warren Stevens (27) combined to make the required runs.
Shannon Clarke claimed Lithgow Hotel's sole wicket, when Brendan Murdoch was declared out LBW for four runs.
THE DUCK POND
Portland’s Nikera Hann was one of Sam Johnson’s five scalps, falling for no runs.
