Wolves had snatched top spot on percentages when they overcame the previously unbeaten Celtics in the final regular season round to move straight into the grand final. Celtics stamped their ticket by defeating the third-placed Lakers 84-56 in the qualifying final but lost Rama Pattison to a broken foot in the process.
The grand final started with both teams struggling to find the basket and the first quarter ended with Celtics 16-10 up. The scoring flowed easier in the second period and at the half Celtics (Zeke Evans, Brandon Horner, Kade Inwood, Adam Marjoram, Nathan Mitchell and Tom Piggott) had increased their advantage by one to 38-31.
Celtics probably won the game in the third quarter when a flurry of early points saw them take it 27-21 for a commanding 65-52 lead. Celtics’ injury woes continued however when Nathan Mitchell had to be taken to hospital with a dislocated knee-cap midway through the fourth stanza.
Wolves (Hayden Cox, Lleyton Guest, Blake Holmes, Eric Joyce, Matt Kappos, Austyn Lincoln and Fletcher Swift) had earlier made a short-lived run to get back within six but Celtics stiffened their defence and held on with five fit players to take the title, 82-70.
