The Lithgow Tidy Towns Laneways Project volunteers were hard at work on Monday morning, April 1, with assistance from Lithgow City Council workers, to erect the memorial.
Tidy Towns' Kathleen Compton said it going up a little early this year due to Easter and other factors.
It includes silhouette figures of soldiers and eight nurses, as well as strings of poppies hand-knitted by the women of Lithgow.
"It's a solemn remembrance of our service men and women," Mrs Compton said.
The figures were created by the Lithgow Men's Shed and painted by George and Fay Quinell, as was the map of Australia which sits at the opening of the lane.
Mrs Compton thanked Lithgow City Council for its assistance in installing the display.
"It will come down straight after Anzac Day, and by then the leaves will have fallen, which is another solemn remembrance," she said.
