If you are, you'll be interested in the Lithgow Dementia Alliance's upcoming Creative Dementia Workshops.

The LDA was successful in getting a funding grant from Dementia Australia to pilot some Creative Dementia workshops, starting on January 18, 2021.

The workshops will run for 10 weeks and be completed in June 2021.

The workshops will be facilitated by two local community members - Jennifer Edwards, a counsellor from Hartley - and Wendy Anne Hawkes, an artist and teacher also from Hartley - and Matt Sutcliffe, a music therapist from Sydney.

LDA Coordinator Kas Hilton said the workshops will create a safe, supportive, and friendly environment for participants to come together and express themselves through creative sessions.

"It's also an opportunity for participants to meet others living with dementia and exchange experiences," she said.

The workshops help participants explore their creative side, reminisce about music and song, and learn how to quiet their thoughts and focus on the here and now.

Kas said that as a community, we need to support people living with dementia and their carers.

"These workshops will provide an opportunity for participants to enjoy the company of others while doing some hands-on art work, calming their thoughts through mindfulness sessions, and reminisce through music and song," she said.

The workshops will be held at the Gang Gang Gallery.

The Lithgow Dementia Alliance (LDA) was formed in November 2019 and has received ongoing support from a number of key organisations, including Dementia Australia, the Lithgow City Council, Lithgow Information and Neighbourhood Centre, Gang Gang Gallery and Lithgow Quota.
