A "pump track" is a venue for bike enthusiasts, giving young people a place to learn and work on their biking skills as well as a place they can socialise with their friends.
A pump track consists of a circuit of rollers, banked turns and features designed to be ridden by riders "pumping" - generating momentum by up and down body movements, instead of pedalling or pushing. Pump tracks are a worldwide phenomenon although only recently arriving in Australia.
Pump tracks can be ridden by cyclists of all ages and skill levels and you don't need a special kind of bicycle to ride on a pump track.
Unlike many informal tracks, the Lithgow pump track will have an asphalt overlay to provide the best all year round riding experience for all ages and all abilities.
The track will be moulded into the natural Endeavour Park slope near the newly constructed Adventure Playground.
"This is great news for Lithgow, especially for our young people and further enhances Endeavour Park as a destination for local people and visitors to Lithgow," said mayor Ray Thompson.

"The funding for the pump track comes from Round Three of the NSW Government's Stronger Country Communities Fund and with a contribution by council.
"I would especially like to thank our Local member Paul Toole for his assistance in securing the grant."
The next stage will be to finalise design work in conjunction with local young people after which construction can commence either in late 2020 or early 2021.
The grant from the NSW Government's Stronger Country Community Fund was announced by Bathurst MP Paul Toole on Friday, June 19.
"This project will further enhance the facilities at Endeavour Park where the 'pump track' will be located," Mr Toole said.
"Last year the $1 million Lithgow Adventure Playground was officially opened at Endeavour Park thanks to the SCCF and I am sure this latest development will also be welcomed by the wider community."
Mr Toole said the 'pump track' will not only serve as a place for sporting cyclists, but also a place for learners to practice their road craft before hitting the streets.

"The design of the Lithgow track has been drawn up in consultation with young people as well as other sites to ensure we get the best features in this exciting development," he said.
"Pump tracks can be ridden by cyclists of all ages and skill levels, so you don't need a special kind of bicycle to take part in activities on them. This initiative comes in response to calls for diverse facilities for all youth, beyond skateboards and scooters."
