A 27-year-old man was airlifted to Westmead Hospital for treatment to injuries sustained in a crash at Marrangaroo on Wednesday afternoon.
The man, who was the only occupant of the vehicle, was trapped for a period of time before being released by emergency services.
He suffered from head, chest and pelvic injuries, and was a in serious condition at the time of his transportation to Westmead.
No one else was treated by paramedics at the scene.
EARLIER
Traffic on the Great Western Highway is being affected in both directions by a crash which occurred just before 4pm.
The crash, involving two cars, occurred at Marrangaroo between Reserve Road and Hughes Lane. At least one person is believed to be trapped and emergency services, including the Volunteer Rescue Association, are in attendance.
People travelling in the area have been urged to exercise caution and leave extra travel time.
