Last Monday Lithgow played against Oberon in the final of the 2019 Interclub Pennant competition on a glorious autumn day at Blackheath.
The course was in immaculate condition, well done and congratulations to their green staff.
Due to the withdrawal of Wentworth Falls during the competition, at the end of the rounds there were three clubs tied on match and individual points. According to the rules, a draw from the hat was done with Oberon going straight to the final and Lithgow playing Leura for the second berth in the final.
This match was also played at Blackheath with Lithgow narrowly defeating Leura three matches to two and thus proceeding to the final.
Result of the final against Oberon was four matches to one: Sue Brooks won 6-5 against Robyn Slattery; Lynne Ritchie won 5-3 against Robyn Stapleton, Olwyn King beat Katie Graham on the 19th; Di McGuire won 3-2 against Jenn Capel and Marie Hackett was beaten on the day by Flo Spence.
The BM Bowl is a handicap match play event and over the competition the Lithgow team gave away a massive combined total of 140 handicap strokes. Congratulations to the team on a great effort.
Helloworld Travel has again generously agreed to sponsor the 2019 Monthly Medal competitions.
Olwyn King is on a roll with the 1st Division monthly medals, having just won the third one this year with a 78 nett. The 2nd Division was won by Anne Doohan with the best score of the day 74 nett.
After a five month trial period, the Lady Golfers are to continue with the Friday competition as the second comp day. This will give those players who are weekday members the opportunity to play twice a week. The Ladies are also introducing a Saturday stableford event beginning June 1. Players may play up until 12pm.
The Ladies' Committee is organising a beginners clinic, to date we have five prospective players. If anyone knows of a lady (or man) who is interested in learning to play golf, please give Pat Livermore or the golf club a call.
Details will be advertised when arrangements have been finalised.
The ladies are very sorry to see professional Garry Nightingale leave the golf club. Garry will finish up June 30, all vouchers should be redeemed asap and accounts at the pro shop finalised. The club wishes him good luck and success in his future endeavours.
