A comprehensive management and conservation plan for the area is set to get under way, after a grant from the NSW Government to contribute to the project.
In presenting the $20,000 grant at Maiyingu Marragu Aboriginal Place recently, Member for Bathurst Paul Toole said the aim was to map out the long term of the site with an overall management and conservation plan for the reserve where Blackfellows Hand is located.
"The plan also aims to increase the general public's awareness and understanding of the importance Blackfellows Hand to the wider community," Mr Toole said.
"Unfortunately there has been a substantial amount of degradation to the site which holds special significance to the Aboriginal culture.
"This plan really is a seen as being a starting point and now begins the process of getting community input as to what is best for the future of Blackfellows Hand."
Wiradjuri elder Aunty Helen Riley said it was important not to rush the plan which was in its early draft stages.
"Blackfellows Hand is such a beautiful part of the world and conservation protection is critical," she said.
"This plan really is the start of a bigger picture vision which we believe could include Indigenous tourism, the development of an Indigenous Rangers Program and cultural centre."
