IN the wash up from the NSW election there are keen observers wondering why Labor, and perhaps the other also rans, failed to capitalise on the Coalitions disastrous mismanagement in the inter urban train replacements for the Blue Mountains Line.

It was a fiasco of grand proportions when the government snubbed local manufacture to purchase off the shelf rail sets from Korea.
What was supposed to be a money saver backfired when too late it was discovered the new trains were out of proportion for the infrastructure between Springwood and Lithgow.
A fortune has to be spent on modifying platforms and, more ominously, the 10 tunnels at Zig Zag.
With the election out of the way there are now fears being expressed that the government will ditch the tunnels widening, leaving us with a permanent bus service.
One would have thought this public service stuff up was the stuff dreams are made of for political campaigners but not a word; Labor was obsessed with point scoring on a stadiums argument it was never going to win.
Paul Toole must have been laughing all the way to the ballot box.
(We're told the virtually unknown Keep Sydney Open candidate tried to raise the issue but even that didn't jog the more seasoned campaigners into action).
Confusing the issue
UNLESS you're up to date with your candidates next months Federal Election could be more confusing than usual. Candidates are beginning to put their posters up around Lithgow while campaign workers still haven't removed some State Election posters for Labor and the Shooters Etc. That's a bit naughty but maybe they're planning to recycle some candidate eh?
Easter rush
PLENTY of visitors in and around our readership area over Easter with wall to wall campers at the two lakes, hectic trading at times for shops, clubs, pubs and food outlets, big crowds at church services, highway traffic gridlock, and all with unusually balmy Indian Summer weather for most of the break. With Easter Monday and Anzac Day falling in the same week and the imminent rush for Ironfest things are sure to remain busy for the next few days.
This week’s Corn Corner
WE hear that Prince Phillips much publicised driving habits before he recently surrendered his licence have prompted suggestions for a TV series The Dukes A Hazard. OK, you don't get it, so ask someone who loves old American redneck movies.
The Venice Method
A much travelled associate suggests Lithgow Council could follow the example of Venice (Europe, not California) in tackling our all too obvious pigeon problem. The cunning Venetians came up with a plan for bird seed laced with a sterilising agent. Didn't injure the birds but it worked in eliminating breeding. No longer is there the pitter patter of little pigeons around the famous canals. Seems like a good idea unless you're a pigeon.
