EnergyAustralia has launched the first round of a $60,000 program to support community projects and initiatives in the Greater Lithgow region.

Head of Mount Piper, Greg McIntyre, said he was very pleased to announce that the grants program had been given a $20,000 boost this year, up from $40,000 in 2018.
“I have only recently joined EnergyAustralia and moved to the Lithgow region - and have been amazed at how strong the local community spirit is. There are a huge number of committed people and projects making life better for everyone here,” he said.
“I am really proud to be part of the EnergyAustralia grants program. Last year, we helped 13 wonderful projects focused on education and social inclusion. This year, we know we can help bring more initiatives to life and give these projects and organisations the extra support they deserve.”
In 2018, 13 local organisations received funding for programs that focused on delivering ongoing benefit to the Lithgow community.
Students at Capertee Public School will experience new ways of learning as they work together on creating and maintaining a sensory garden.
The Mandiyaba Yadhaa (Possum Dream) program at Lithgow High School offers students in their Sista Speak group an opportunity to learn the practice of making possum skin coats. Coming together in a series of workshops, they will learn about their heritage and community in an effort to develop cultural connectedness and confidence.
The Lithgow Bears Rugby League Club, Anglicare Mobile Community Pantry, Rydal Show Society, Beehive Re-Creative Centre and Wallerawang Lidsdale Progress Association were among others to receive funds for their community work.
Each year grants are awarded based on a project’s potential to benefit the Greater Lithgow region in two key areas: education and social inclusion.
- Education: Funding aimed at promoting education and knowledge acquisition. This can include programs with a social or environmental focus and organisations which support career or skills development.
- Social inclusion: Funding aimed at facilitating social inclusion. These initiatives support community cohesion and can include such things as men’s sheds, upgrading communal facilities, improving local amenities and supporting vulnerable community members.
