Mr Barth migrated from Germany in 1960 and said it wasn't until 1994 when he retired that he could follow his dream of devoting his time to painting.
The artist has travelled throughout Australia and has been inspired by the contrast and beauty of Australian landscapes.
"The natural beauty of the bush and the outback became my inspiration to work in oils. I love to paint and my favourites are Australian Landscapes and Seascapes," he said.
He also said painting was one of the best hobbies anyone could have.
Mr Barth's paintings have been sold to every state in Australia as well as internationally to Germany, Japan, Singapore, New Zealand, America and Canada.
Portland Art Society publicity officer Rich Evans said the exhibition had built a solid reputation with artists and patrons over its long history.
"It has become one of the most highly anticipated events for the local arts scene," he said.

Mr Evans said this year there was 20 new artists joining the exhibition.
Approximately 350 works have been entered into the show with 56 prize entries for this years' Portland Art Prize, sponsored by The Foundations.
The theme for this year is 'Dry' and the organising committee looked forward to seeing how the artists represent the theme in their works.
The opening night will be held on Friday, March 1 in the Crystal Theatre from 6.30pm-10pm, with light refreshments and drinks being served.
Admission is $10 or $5 for concession.
Mr Evans said there was a lot of work to do in getting the theatre ready.
“There is a lot of work that happens in a very short space of time for this exhibition. The event would not happen with out our very hard working committee volunteering their time, along with a number of other local Portland groups,” he said.
The exhibition will be open for visitation on Satuday, March 2 from 10am-5pm or Sunday, March 3, 10am-4pm.
Admission is $5 for adults or $3 for concession and children.
