Portland Bowling Club hosted the Zone Championships Presidents Pairs event on February 2 and 3.
The competition included teams from around the region, with the Mudgee team of David Kurtz and and David McDonald taking out the top honours.
Sixteen teams took to the greens on a very warm Saturday. While the skies threatened at times, the rain did not arrive, allowing the rounds to go ahead unimpeded.
Portland’s Neville Turner and Michael Blonda made it through the first round, defeating a Mudgee team, before taking out the Lithgow City team of William Anderson and John Forbes.
The pairing was the only local team to make it through to the semi-final, which was contested by teams from Mudgee and Millthorpe, Gulgong.
Blonda and Turner were knocked out in the semis by the Millthorpe team of Wayne Eason and John Adams, who went on to contest the final. The Mudgee team was too strong, with Kurtz and McDonald taking home the Zone 4 Presidents Pairs Section 3 title.
