With two year mayoral elections now in force replacing the former annual vote it means that Thommo, if successful, will head the council through to the next full election in 2020.
He was deputy to Maree Statham during her mayoral tenure but after a public falling out he memorably refused to vote for anyone two years ago, forcing a controversial two way draw from the hat that saw Stephen Lesslie into the top job.
Identity crisis
A group of locals enjoying a Sunday morning chat near Marjorie’s status in Cook Plaza were asked by some visitors from Cronulla ‘... is that Betty Cuthbert?’.
Nothing new in that; the ‘who is it’’ question gets asked every day during the absence of any identification on our favourite work of art.

The greening
PITY we didn’t consult with Penrith Council in planning our CBD ‘revitalisation’. Down there they really revitalised a public space between the council office block and The Joan theatre complex.
It too had a lot of concrete but they covered most of it with user friendly quality artificial grass that’s hugely popular with the public for all sorts of things.
Maybe it’s not too late for us if anyone’s interested.
Pre-season campaign
IT had to happen; it’s the same every year.
Christmas goodies are appearing in the supermarkets in mid September.
Very considerate of ‘em I say; shop three months out from Chrissie and save the rush.
Weather
The weather can’t make up its mind but take heart - it’s just two weeks until the start of that glorious season, daylight saving.
