It was a huge day for Lithgow soccer on Sunday with 50 teams from across the Central West and into the Blue Mountains gathering for a gala day.
The annual Seven-a-Side carnival was held in bitterly cold conditions, with 93 games played over four hours on Saturday morning that did not reach 7 degrees.
With blustery winds and swirling snow hitting the fields in the morning, a meeting was held at the grounds to see if the competition should be held.
Competition secretary Lorraine Keay said it was an easy decision to go ahead.
“We didn’t receive one call from an out of town team asking if it was still on, they all just turned up,” she said.
The grounds were packed with playing fields, players and spectators. Lithgow and District Football Association teams, including Lithgow, Wallerawang and Blackheath, hosted clubs from as far away as Orange, Mudgee-Gulgong and Wentworth Falls.

Ages between under 6 and under 16 played, with the under 12’s, under 14’s and under 16’s contesting finals matches.
Keay thanked the organising clubs, the Lithgow Thistles and Wallerawang, the junior referees who helped run the day and businesses Wallerawang Village Meats and Lithgow Woolworths for supporting the raffle.
