The artist, who primarily paints landscapes, said she was “chuffed” to be asked to be the featured artist at the long-standing art show.
She hoped her work would strike a chord with visitors, who may recognise the shapes and colours of the region.
“What you will see is a little bit of a painting diary of what I’ve been up to over the last 12 months,” she said.
Nicole’s works use a lot of colour in a way that is more contemporary than many landscape works.
"I hope my paintings will remind people of where we live and uplift the room and the mood,” she said.
“The painting process makes me happy and I hope that comes across.”
The works will include images from the outback featuring the landscapes of Arkaroola, South Australia, as well as local scenes across the seasons.
“There is a good mix of paintings and, the way they are hung at the theatre, they bounce off each other.”
The exhibition opens on Friday, March 3 from 6.30pm. Nicole will speak and there will presentations of first and second in the Portland Art Prize. The prize challenged participating artists to represent ‘Bottles’ in their works.
This year marks the 41st year of the Portland Art Exhibition and has attracted its largest number of entries ever, with 435 works. The art works will be for sale over the weekend.
