Saskia Archer, who plays the role of the 'Angel of Bali' Hanabeth Luke in the series, has fallen for Indiana Linzbichler, who plays her onscreen boyfriend, Marc Gajardo.
Gajardo died in the 2002 Bali bomb blast, which killed 202 people, including 88 Australians.
Shooting the bomb scene in the Stan series was especially harrowing.
"He and I really dedicated ourselves to our roles and we have been dating and plan on moving to LA together at the end of the year," Archer said.
Archer said playing a real life character, who is still very much alive and high profile within the Australian community, was a daunting experience.
"Actually, playing Hanabeth was really challenging," Archer said.
"Challenging in terms of the depth of emotion she must have been going through, her past, and what led up to the event."
Archer got in touch with Hanabeth Luke, who now lives on the North Coast of NSW and lectures at Southern Cross University, before playing the role to get a sense of her "energy".
"When I made the call to her I was really nervous because she has become a bit of hero through my eyes in this process," she said
"I was a bit nervous and giggling. She was really calm and really sweet and very friendly and I knew exactly the energy to put into the character.
"She got access to watch it early and at some point she texted she was happy with it and I think she used the word 'fantastic'."
