Fortunately cast and crew members have been practicing their lines and making props since February, ready to finally open the curtains at the Union Theatre.
The Society is set to perform Les Misérables, one of the greatest shows of the 20th Century, with opening night pencilled in for August 6.
Musical director Rae Burton said the cast had been practicing for months, dedicating time two nights a week in the newly revamped theatre.
"We are well and truly into rehearsals and hope we will open the curtains after being held up with COVID," she said.
She said the show involved an all age cast from school-age to retired community members.
"It's a very big cast, there are many ex-students from Lithgow High and lots of people who have been in the society for a long time and new ones," she said.
"We also have some cast members that have joined from Bathurst.
"I think we have a good cast and it's going to be a very good and impressive show."
Ms Burton encouraged people to come and watch the performance and said they could expect a show of talent and high quality.
"People can expect that it's as good anything they're going to see anywhere," she said.
She also said the recent renovations to the Union Theatre had improved their ability to put on a live production.
"The seating and stage area has been painted out and tidied up, Council has done a great job," she said.
"But where the great improvements are for us of course is at the back of the stage, where we were using sheds and all sorts of things before.
"It's now a wonderful area with a green room and dressing rooms, it's much more comfortable and everyone is able to work really hard and efficiently.
"We also have a wonderful sound and lighting board that Council has funded and it's going to make such a difference."
Ms Burton wanted to thank Sharon Lewis and Denise Ivers who have helped with making props and create magic with the costumes.
"We make everything ourselves, we have worked really hard and really well together," she said.
She looked forward to seeing the hard work of the musical society come together on stage.
"I'm looking forward to it, it's been a long time so it'll be nice to see our hard work on show," she said.
Musical Society president Paul Goodwin said he was excited to present the show to the community and give the town something to do.
"It was very difficult for us during COVID, we wanted to perform last year but we just couldn't," he said.
"But we are so excited and keen to present this latest show. One of the things that we are most proud of is that it's a real community based production, there's not many things that go on within the community that you can have three generations of one family in the one event at the one time."
Lithgow Musical Society encouraged the community to come and see the show and have announced that next year they plan to do 'Mamma Mia'.
