The Lithgow club aimed to run 650km throughout the week of 15th-22nd of May with a final In-Club event being held on the 22nd as a way to bring both businesses and community members together at the club for the fundraiser.
The Lithgow club managed to raise $1000 on the day which contributed to the $313,119 nationwide total.
Manager at Lithgow's Anytime Fitness, Jack Arthur said continued support for initiatives like R U OK? is paramount.
"As a society we have made good progress to deconstruct the stigma surrounding mental health issues like depression, suicide and anxiety," he said.
"As such, more people are beginning to feel comfortable in sharing their experiences with these issues and furthermore seeking help for them, holding events like we did for organisations like R U OK? serve as an amazing opportunity to not only Raise Awareness/Funds but to also provide an approachable place to seek more information about available services.
"Personally I think the greatest strength about events like these is the ability for community members that might be going through issues like this to connect and share their experiences, all it takes is giving 10-15 minutes of your time to listen to someone to help them on the way to healing."
The club asked members of the Club and Community to run 650 kilometres together as one. "This figure reflects the 65,000 Australians a year that attempt to take their own lives," Manager Jack Arthur said.
"Alongside that we asked community members and businesses to donate. For every kilometre run during the fundraiser we donated a dollar to match it.
"I am very proud, to have participation from the community and business community in Lithgow for issues like this is essential for our community, the funds raised for a cause like this are a cause for pride among the community especially here in Lithgow as well where historically we have above average rates of suicide, depression and anxiety."
In addition, Jack said it wouldn't have been possible without the support of the community, so he wanted to thank all the businesses that participated and donated. Lithgow Tin Shed/Mint Brew Coffee Van, Iron Ambitions Lithgow, The Hub Gourmet Pizza, Haktari Taekwondo, BJ's Carpet Cleaning and all the other businesses that helped promote the event like Tough Grind Barbers and Hometown Café.
"I'd Also like to thank our biggest kilometre contributor Jess Mirtschin who's training for her own Breast Cancer Fundraiser in October and Ben Young who has been a consistent proponent for promoting mental health awareness in the town," he said.
