With the area completely cut off due to the damage access roads sustained during devastating bouts of rain recently, the Jenolan Caves precinct has been forced to extend its closure for at least the next three weeks.
Transport for NSW advised earlier this week that access into the area will remain closed for the foreseeable future to allow sufficient time to assess the damage sustained to Jenolan Caves Road in both directions, between the Binoomea Ridge Trail and The Bicentennial National Trail.
More commonly known as the Two and Five Mile sections of road, Transport for NSW said the repair work will be undertaken on the former after assessing the damage while a long-term recovery plan is required for the latter as restoration will take considerably longer.
Those access routes remain closed due to slope instability while Jenolan Caves Road also remains closed at Hampton between Old Bindo and Duckmaloi roads, near Oberon, for the same reason.
In its most recent update, Jenolan Caves said there was no choice to extend its closure until at least April 18 after receiving that advice from Transport for NSW.
"This extension been another tough decision for our business and we understand it will be disappointing for a lot of our guests that were hoping to visit us over Easter and the school holidays," the update said.
Please know though, we offer complete booking flexibility and our staff are happy to assist you by arranging alternative dates, offering a voucher valid for up to three years or providing a refund for any cancellations for experiences that have been pre-paid."
The closure will have a considerable impact on the destination, which is estimated to receive upward of 230,000 visitors a year.
Jenolan Caves operators are in the process in contacting customers but encouraged them to get in touch through a number of ways should they need assistance, urging patience due to the high volume of calls and emails they are receiving.
