Lithgow Lazers product Jett Chaniotis selected for the Basketball NSW TAP camp

Lithgow Lazers product Jett Chaniotis is set to dribble up a promising competitive career in basketball after his selection in the Basketball NSW Talented Athlete Program (TAP) camp.

The 13 year-old Bathurst native was one of 25 selected in the U14s Boys Country list and will hit the camp courts in Narrabeen from May 26 to 28.

"I'm pretty happy to be selected," Chaniotis said.

The TAP trial process saw over 630 athletes trial across NSW at five different venues including Bathurst, Albury, Griffith, Shoalhaven, Maitland, Minto and Coffs Harbour.

Chaniotis said he trialled for TAP in 2020 but thanks to COVID-19 the camp was unable to go ahead.

"Due to COVID I didn't have a chance to do it last year but I went back again and now I get to experience it so that's pretty exciting," he said.

He said he looked forward to participating in the camp and was up for the challenge.

"It'll be a bit of a challenge coming up against some metro players and getting the competition that we don't get out here," he said.

Chaniotis has been playing basketball for six years and says it's the sport for him.

"Everything about basketball is great but I love the challenge," he said.

"Playing rep basketball was something I was always interested in, I really like to be challenged and I'm tall, dad encourages me to be a good athlete.

"Basketball is the sport for me."

Chaniotis wanted to thank his family for supporting his basketball dreams.

"Thanks to dad for always driving me around and mum for the support and my brother for training with me," he said.
