At the September 28 regular council meeting, Lithgow councillors voted on the position of mayor and deputy mayor for at least one more year.

Cr Ray Thompson was voted in to retain his position as mayor for the next 12 months with a show of seven hands totalling seven votes.
The election was carried through an open voting method decided unanimously by all councillors.
If COVID had not hit, then Lithgow residents would have recently gone to the polls to elect their councillors. But earlier this year the Minister for Local Government postponed the election to 2021.
Cr Cassandra Coleman was also nominated for the mayor's position however only received two votes.
For the deputy mayor position only one councillor was nominated and therefore guaranteed the position for the next year, being Cr Wayne McAndrew.
Cr McAndrew was previously in the role before Cr Steve Ring took over.

Lithgow mayor and Cr Ray Thompson acknowledged Cr Ring's contribution as deputy mayor for the last 12 months and congratulated Cr McAndrew on his return to the position.
"Congratulations to Cr McAndrew for being nominated unopposed for deputy mayor," he said.
Cr Thompson also thanked his fellow councillors for their support.
