Snow is expected to fall in areas as low as 500m above sea level, which includes Lithgow with heavy falls also expected in surrounding areas.
Acting Sergeant Jason Marks, from Chifley's Highway Patrol Command, said people really need to slow down and drive to the prevailing conditions.
Sgt. Marks said police are reminding motorists to take extra care on the roads, as snow is expected in areas around Orange, Lithgow, Oberon, the Blue Mountains as well as areas in Bathurst up until the early hours of Sunday morning.

"Potential snowfall could close the roads, and there is also potential for fallen trees," he said.
"Visibility will be restricted, with snow and fog and road surfaces likely to be more slippery when they are wet and icy, so please, slow down and drive to the conditions."
He said police are suggesting to all motorists to avoid or delay any travel over the weekend with the forecast conditions, which, according to weather experts are so bad, the state has not seen anything like it in the last 15 years.
"Avoid any non-essential travel."
He said permanent signage will be used on the roads to provide motorists with traffic information, and reminded people to get traffic updates via social media, local radio stations and live traffic.com.
"People can also download the Live Traffic NSW App," he said.
Sgt. Marks said he had also spoken with RMS Traffic Operations and there will be graders set up at Fitzgerald's Mount, Shadforth, Yetholme and Lithgow if they are required.
"Police along with RMS Inspectors will be monitoring these roads across the weekend.
"Transport for NSW endeavours to maintain access along all major roads within affected areas," he said.
