It was a picture-perfect day at Tony Luchetti Sportsground with Lithgow Bears taking on Oberon Tigers in round one of the Wallerawang Landscaping Cup.
While Lithgow Bears were unlucky to gain wins over Oberon, teams were happy to be back out on the field.
In the league tag Bears went down 32-12 while in the men's Lithgow lost 74-0 to Oberon.
RUGBY LEAGUE
Oberon were impressive, running in 13 tries and with their goal kicker, Jake Foley, bang on target, missing only two attempts.
The game was played in quarters to accommodate COVID-19 safety protocols to allow drink breaks.
The first quarter saw a very willing Lithgow outfit playing a physical style of football with great tackles by Nick Miller and Ryan Bilby.
It wasn't until the final few minutes that Oberon were able to post two tries to break the arm-wrestle and take a 10-0 lead into drinks.
The Lithgow outfit were further tested with a score of 16-0 early into the second quarter, followed by an Oberon conversion taking the scoreline out to 22-0.
By now, the only time that the Bears ventured onto the Tigers' half was through a restart of play.
With the Tigers in full control, the score kept climbing to a final scoreline at 74-0.
LEAGUE TAG
The Lithgow Bears have a mix of returning and new players to the 2020 side and have been training hard under the guidance of coach Monique Millmore.
Oberon's Georgia Rich opened the scoring and converted her own try taking a 6-0 lead over Lithgow.
The Tigers put some more points on the board but Lithgow fought back with Jessie Lutschini finding the try line.
The Bears continued to turn the pressure up with another two try's by Jade Cameron and Alanna Tomazin, unfortunately no conversions for the Lithgow side.
With the score then at 18-12 Oberon eased the pressure with a score in the corner resulting in 22-12 and kept finding the line and converting taking the winning result to 32-12.
The Lithgow Bears are off to Bathurst this weekend (Saturday, July 25) where they will take on CSU in round two.
League tag kicks off at 1.30pm followed by rugby league at 2.30pm.
