A property auction of more than usual interest is set for later this month when one of Lithgow's most prestigious heritage properties goes under the hammer for only the second time in more than a century.
Local Edwardian mansion 'Wenvoe', with frontages to Ordnance Avenue and Malvern Street, was home to four generations of the Bracey retailing family since being built as a landmark estate by company founder Major H.E.S.Bracey around 1914.
It changed hands for the first time some 12 years ago, with intentions reported in the media at that time of becoming some sort of meditation and healing retreat.
'Wenvoe' was reported to have been at that time Lithgow's most expensive change of ownership.
Since then its role has been low profile in the community but the owner is now ready to move on to other pursuits.
The sprawling estate with a two storey main residence and a free standing former servants' quarters includes a ballroom and pool as well as spacious fully restored gardens.
International auction giants Sothebys and Elders are handling the sale.

MEANTIME, continuing with the auction theme, it must be time out of town real estate firms removed auction signs from above the awnings of two lots of commercial premises in Lithgow's central Main Street.
The properties, one embracing St George Bank and Pizza Hut and the other a block of office buildings opposite the Community Services block were sold to investors many months ago.
Notre Dame needs you
HERE'S your chance to donate - or at least loan - your body to medical science while you're still around to enjoy the roar of applause.
But you'll need to be able to 'put on an act'.
The Lithgow clinical school of the University of Notre Dame where they put the finishing touches on final year medical students is having a training day called 'interns day in surgery' on Wednesday June 24. And they need the voluntary services of a small number of actors to assist in a role play in different scenarios to be presented to the students.
You'll only be needed between 1 and 4 pm and while it's play acting on your part it's all important training for our future doctors.
Lithgow has no shortage of people with acting experience in its many forms (Theatre Group, Musical Society, Ironfest) so contribute a little of your time.
If you'd like to be involved give Jennifer Corney a call at Notre Dame on 8204 4158 or email Jennifer.corney@nd.edu.au.
Cold comfort
THEY'RE a hardy lot them what sees holiday heaven as 'going camping' - albeit with varying degrees of home comforts.
So a little inconvenience like overnight temperatures in negative territory wasn't going to keep them away during the holiday weekend.
Camp sites at Lake Lyell were booked out and it was busy around Lake Wallace.
Mind you we didn't spot anyone swimming so maybe they are really a mob of wimps. Heaps of the bush bashing 4WD lot headed up to the Newnes Forest as well.
Them and us?
CURRENT events at home and abroad have highlighted the need for a return to informal interaction between police and public.
Cops on the beat stopping for an informal chat, as happened in not too distant years gone by, can work wonders in community relationships. It doesn't happen enough these days, and more's the pity.
