Council says residents can expect dirty water for about a day once service returns to normal but will aim to minimise the effect by flushing the mains.
Council isn't sure how long the works will take and haven't yet given an expected completion date.
These works by Council are to fix a long-standing issue for residents of the street after the Lithgow Mercury reported at the beginning of May that some residents were unable to shower or wash clothes, all because the water coming from their taps was a murky brown colour.
"I got home from work and I'm an essential worker.. I'm around people and when I come home I want to have a shower just to wash work off," said an Inch Street resident, wanted to remain anonymous at the time.
"I went into the bathroom and ran the sink and I was just disgusted...
"It looked like coffee, I looked at it and thought oh my gosh."
'To complete the removal of the valve, a number of mains will be shut down in area around Bridge Street, Tank Street and Inch Street which will disrupt supply to a large number of residents and businesses in Oakey Park, Inch Street, Henderson Place, Thornley Close, Railway Parade Hoskins Avenue, John, Clarice, Roy, Spooner, Hayley and Padley Streets,' Council wrote.
'Council will commence works at 8am, Council cannot provide a timeframe for the completion of works but will aim to minimise the period of disruption and provide updates as they become available.
'Before using the water for domestic purposes, residents are advised to run the first tap that services their property to ensure the water is clean and any dirt released into the system has been flushed before running internal taps. If the water does not run clear within a couple of minutes please contact Council on 6354 9999.
