But, what do you need to do to be eligible? There are a list of requirements the company needs you to fulfill before being allowed on the platform. The Lithgow Mercury has dug down into the company's website to find out what they are.
Before we get to the car, you must first be 21-years-old or older. You must hold an unrestricted NSW licence and have held a full Australian licence for at least 12 months in the last 2 years and be able to provide documents to prove it and also prove you have a right to work in Australia.
Now the car, sadly, your two-door Swift won't cut it. To be eligible, your car must have four doors, be a 2010 model or newer, be in good driving condition with no cosmetic damage and be ANCAP 5-Star rated, or fall under the Uber vehicle exemption policy - details on that can be found here: https://ubr.to/3csuZzn
If you tick all those boxes then you're - nearly - good to go. You'll need to create an Uber account at their website. You'll need to upload documents to get started, including your driver's licence, proof of identification, vehicle insurance, and a valid profile photo.
After that's done, you'll need to upload a copy of your NSW driving record to your Uber profile, lodge a background check, and apply for a Passenger Transport licence code to be added to your driver's licence which you should be able to do at a Service NSW location.
Finally, your car will need to have an annual eCheck (pink slip) registration - even if it is less than 5 years old.
Once all of that has been checked off, you can begin your side-hustle as an Uber driver in Lithgow.
