The annual competition for the Billy Wells Shield took place on the Lithgow Workmen's bowling green on the Australia Day public holiday and although the games were called off early because of a thunderstorm no one minded some rain coming to Lithgow.

The day celebrated the life of Billy Wells a stalwart of the club and his daughter Kathy Wade presented the winning trophy to Les Slattery and Fred Foye.

Kathy thanked the club and told the bowlers that her father loved his bowls and had to be at the club every Sunday because the club was "always one short".
