They received four points for the bye in the latest round but the only team they could have beaten home, Charolais, had a solid victory over Smashes to put themselves out of reach.
Smashes took the first rubber 2-1 over Charolais but it would be the only time they saw the lead. Charolais went ahead 5-3 before Smashes locked it up at 5-all nearing the halfway mark. A 6-1 Charolais run put them in control at 11-6 and they cruised home for a 15-8 triumph.
Pauline Wellfare and Dave Mays were in good touch for Charolais, both recording 6-1 marks, while Sean Jenkins struggled to 1-6.
Only Matt Kappos (4-4) was able to break even for Smashes, while Kelly Gurney went 2-4 and Leon Rust 2-5.
The other match between Loopers and Grippers was a hard-fought affair that was not decided until the final rubber. Grippers appeared in early command with leads of 4-1 and 7-3 before Loopers tied it up late at 10-all. Grippers snatched the last singles rubber 2-1 for a precious 12-11 edge going into the doubles, but Loopers won both, 2-0 and 2-1 respectively, to sneak home, 15-13.
No one stood out in the victory for Loopers, with Mark McAulay playing three three-gamers for 5-4, while Roy Barlow finished square at 4-4 and Michael Wood recorded 2-4.
Lou Kappos (6-2) and Shane Eagle (5-3) almost got Grippers home, while Linda Kappos was unlucky to go 1-6.
Spinners had the bye.
