Chifley-Lithgow's NSW Rural Fire Service team advised that the fire, which was detected on Saturday, October 26 is in the process of being controlled.
"The fire is burning in a very remote area of the National Park within forested areas and has currently burnt approximately 1500 hectares of National Park and a small area private property," the statement from district coordinator Gary Hansen said.
"The fire is burning slowly in all directions along very steep terrain."
Current weather conditions are pushing the fire primarily in a westerly direction towards Coorongooba Creek and other planned containment lines to the north, east and south.
Combined NSW Rural Fire Service and National Parks and Wildlife Service crews have been working to contain the fire, supported by three aircraft and bulldozers.
Smoke may affect residents in Capertee Valley, Ilford, Newnes, Wolgan Valley and Putty throughout the week.
"People are requested to avoid travelling to the area so as to not impede fire fighting operations," the RFS warned.
People with health issues should take appropriate precautions, such as staying indoors and closing all windows and doors to protect themselves from smoke.
No properties are expected to come under threat.
