The brainchild of Ron Bidwell OAM, WallNuts started in 2001 as a celebration of the traditional art of signwriting.
Since Mr Bidwell's death in March 2018, the fraternity of signwriters has continued the annual tradition.
As the projects the WallNuts have undertaken in the town have expanded, so has Portland's reputation as a tourist icon, 'The Signs of Yesteryear', Portland Community Group president Kel Lawson said.
Visitors were invited to drop into the historic Co-op Building on Lett Street to check out the work under way or to commission works.
"Come inside and look at all the old signs and talk to them about the signs you would like to have done, a building sign or a sign for a front gate..." Mr Lawson said.
A total of 32 WallNuts are expected to take part in the event.
Work will be carried out on small scale signs within the Co-op and on the exterior of the building throughout the weekend.
