Enter Higgins Lawyers who at the weekend celebrated an historic milestone, 80 years of serving the legal challenges of the community.
It was way back in 1939 when the late Ian Higgins established his law practice in eastern Main Street. Some time later came expansion to a slightly larger first floor office further down the street, then finally back across the road to a purpose built office block on the present location that quickly more than doubled in size to accommodate an expanding clientele and corresponding expanding staff numbers.
Brothers Ross and Phil Joined the family practice after graduation and Ross, once one of the State's leading Rugby Union referees, continues at the helm today.
At the weekend Ross and Liz Higgins hosted an anniversary luncheon at Wallerawang's Black Gold Cabins for around 70 guests including long term clients and visiting members of the legal fraternity from various locations.

Anecdotes from life in the law flowed freely and there was a surprise guest that highlighted the easy informality of the occasion - Elvis, or someone closely resembling 'The King' , who provided obviously popular lunch time entertainment.
Higgins Lawyers now has branch offices at Blackheath, Katoomba and Oberon and is clearly a significant local employer.
