Thompson will meet her team in Sydney on Saturday, September 28 where they will train before flying to Hobart as a team on Monday, September 30.
Thompson was selected into the state squad after her performance in the under 13's state championships in Parkes in July. From there she travelled to Port Macquarie for squad trials, where she was named as part of the NSW team.
This is the first time Thompson has been selected to be part of this team.
"But last year I was selected into the all NSW school girls hockey team and we came home with gold," she said.
Thompson has never been to Hobart before but said she was excited to be going interstate.
"I can't wait to be there with the team and play some great hockey and hopefully get to see some beautiful sites," she said.
Thompson who will play 12 games over eight days said she had many goals she wanted to accomplish while over in Hobart.
"I want to play the best I can and never give up, and I also want to make a lot of new friends," she said.
To prepare for the competition, Thompson has just finished playing in the Lithgow local competition where her team made the grand final, as well as finishing her Bathurst competition where her team won the grand final.
"I have also been training with the AAP (Athlete Acceleration Program) locally and keeping up my own fitness training," she said.
"Our NSW team will also train this weekend in Moorebank before we fly out on Monday."
Thompson said she would like to thank both her coaches in Lithgow and Bathurst, the Lithgow Workies Club, Lithgow City Council and her family for the ongoing support they have given her.
The Australian Nationals are held from Tuesday, October 1 to Tuesday, October 8.
