Minister for Regional Transport and Roads, Bathurst MP Paul Toole, said the funds would make the intersection safer and more efficient for motorists.
"This section of the Great Western Highway is a key route for residents, commuters and visitors alike as it links the communities of Bathurst, Lithgow and Portland," he said.
"A review of this intersection found the upgrade was necessary to provide a safer turn onto Range Road for people travelling on the highway.
"The upgrade will include widening the highway and installing a safety barrier to provide safer travel through the intersection for all motorists in the area, so they can arrive home safely to their family and friends."
Work on the safety upgrade is expected to start in October this year.
