Lithgow Police were alerted at 10.30am on August 25 after reports the driver of a green Subaru station wagon had fled a random breath test site in the Blue Mountains.
Lithgow officers picked up the pursuit at River Lett and considered using road spikes, but the chase was abandoned due to safety concerns on the Great Western Highway at Lithgow.
The car was found on Sunday night abandoned near railway tracks between Portland and Cullen Bullen.
Police said forensic testing would be conducted to try to identify the driver, who was not at the scene.

A 20-year-old Lithgow man's Mongoose BMX bike was stolen from an Andrew Street property in Bowenfels over the weekend.
On Saturday night, August 24, the resident heard a bang in the rear yard and in the morning found that an unregistered car had been damaged and his bike was missing.
The bike was worth $200.
