A woman was airlifted from Portland on Wednesday afternoon, August 21, after a tyre which was being inflated ruptured, causing a serious facial injury. Three road ambulances were called to the scene at 2pm after reports the 66-year-old had suffered facial injuries when the tyre exploded at a local service station. She was found to be in a stable condition but required airlifting to Westmead Hospital for treatment. The rescue helicopter from Orange was dispatched to transport her. A NSW Ambulance spokesperson said the head injury was the most serious wound, but the woman also complained of aches and pain to her pelvic area. Lithgow Police were unable to confirm the type of tyre being inflated when they were contacted by the Lithgow Mercury on Thursday, August 22.
