That's the life of Jonathan Brown.

The young father of three was nominated by his wife Ashley for the Philips Community Sports Dad of the Year award and has recently been announced as a finalist.

The Sports Dad of the Year award is designed to highlight dads in the community who inspire their children and those in the town around them.

Jonathan's full-time job is at Springvale mine. He is also the captain at the Fire and Rescue Lithgow West station.

When he's not doing that, he's running on minimal sleep to coach his kids, Lydia, Linc and Halle, for the Lithgow Storm Junior Rugby League football club.

"I coach all three of their teams so it's the U6s and U8s, which is a mix of boys and girls, and then the U11s league tag team," Jonathan said.

He said coaching three teams kept him on his toes and very active.

"Once the kids finish school we head down to training on a Thursday and Friday.

"I've learnt a lot from the kids individually, there are a lot of personalities and every kid is different, some have a natural gift for the sport and others need a little more help," he said.

Jonathan said he planned to keep coaching as long as his kids kept playing.

"Being their coach and their dad there's nothing better, I'm their number one supporter," he said.

Jonathan said he was surprised to hear that he was a finalist.

"I wasn't expecting to hear anything back. I thought it was just one of those online competitions and you've got no chance of winning but then my wife got a phone call," he said.

If he wins, Jonathan will receive a $5000 Rebel Sports voucher to donate to Storm.

"It's nice to not only be recognised for all the time and effort I put in but also to have the chance to give the $5000 voucher to go towards the club for more training gear and uniforms," he said.
