What a fabulous proposal - so good for Lithgow and for the natural environment.

Destination Pagoda should be supported by all levels of government. Lithgow needs an economic stimulus and it needs to have an assured future, beyond coal mining and power generation.
Shame on the slim majority of Lithgow Councillors for being so blinkered and not even showing support in principal for the proposal. What sort of future do they see for Lithgow and its community?

Thank you for your report on LCC's stand on the Destination Pagoda proposal. Could I please make some comments:
The proposal does suggest ownership and responsibility of State Forest roads on the Newnes Plateau to go to National Parks. The proposal does not suggest any responsibility for these roads by LCC.
However, recent cost shifting imposed by the state government on LCC has made LCC alarmed. The proposed Conservation Zone for the Gardens of Stone does allow underground mining to continue, just like it has been done by Centennial's Mt Airly coal mine under the Mugii Murum-Ban State Conservation Zone since 2011.
The proposal is a proposal and nothing is set in stone. It is very regrettable that LCC refuses any engagement from the start. To me the proposal represents one great opportunity to increase tourism in Lithgow and protect the beautiful places we life in.
