Mr Burrows, 58, a well known local greyhound trainer and worker at Mt Piper power station, was killed when an improvised explosive device detonated in Villiers Lane, Portland, behind his mother's home, on July 24, 2015.
Paul John Fitzpatrick, 73, was taken into custody on December 13, 2017, and charged with the murder. He remained in custody following his arrest until the verdict was read.
On Monday, Mr Fitzpatrick was found not guilty in the NSW Supreme Court. The supreme court jury, which retired to consider its verdict on Wednesday, July 24, found him not guilty on Monday afternoon.
Chifley Police District crime manager Detective Inspector Luke Rankin said the investigation would remain open.
"We would still welcome any information from the community," he said.
He said while criminal proceedings were heard, the coronial process had been suspended. The matter would now return to the coroner.
