Lithgow mayor Cr Ray Thompson announced Kye Cameron as the winner of the Junior Award for June 2019. Kye was selected to play for the under 15's combined NSW-Queensland Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders invitation side and was coached by former NRL Players Tom Leeroy Laars and Dean Widders.
Kye competed in the Australian Schoolboys under 15's championship held in June over 5 days in Redcliffe, Queensland. Kye and the team were successful in making it into the final for the John Allen Trophy in which they beat the Victorian State team 20-14. Kye was named man of the match and most valuable player for his team during the tournament.
The Senior Award for June 2019 was won by Shannon Legge for the role she played in women's league tag.
Shannon was selected for the Group 10 Women's League Tag Team to compete in the Western Rams Representative Cluster held in Forbes. Shannon and the team defeated both Castlereagh and Group 11 at the Cluster and gave the Group 10 side its seventh Western Rams Championship Trophy in a row.
"Council extends its congratulations to Kye and Shannon on their achievements, and further encourages the community and local sporting organisations to submit nominations for these awards," Cr Ray Thompson said.
