Thompson scored two important goals for the Australian side, showing her power with the hockey stick.
Thompson travelled to the Netherlands with her teammates, where she spent four days in Harlem, visiting the Anne Frank House, going on a canal cruise and playing two practice matches against club teams.
"While we were in Amsterdam we were lucky enough to have a training session with Alyson Annan, an outstanding Australian hockey player who played in the Olympic Games a number of times," she said.
Thompson then headed to Belgium where she got to watch Belgium men and women's pro league hockey side take on Great Britain.
"We visited WWI memorial sites including Tyn Cot, Polygon wood, Flanders Field museum and also joined a wreath laying ceremony at Menin Gate Memorial Ypres," she said.
"We also spent some time at the Sir John Monash Centre, visiting these places certainly made me feel very proud to be an Australian."
Thompson then headed off to Amiens France where she played her first international game against the under 18's French team.
The Australian's had a magnificent win 6-0.
Thompson then enjoyed a rest day, and a long drive to Strasbourg where she saw the 'beautiful' city by canal cruise.
"Some free time to explore the city of Strasbourg with our families was a real treat," she said.
Before the Australian team left Germany, they visited Nalzweiler-Struthof Concentration Camp.
"This was a pretty daunting experience," she said.
At the final destination of Mannheim Germany, the Australian team prepared for the Four Nations Tournament, with two practice matches again the German side.
"We found it tough going against the Germans as they were a well drilled team, who trained together regularly," she said.
"We had just experienced some tough hockey and a taste of what was about to come."
The tournament ran for three days, with the Australian team facing the Netherlands in their first match. They suffered a 2-1 loss.
"We were improving with every game, it was pretty good feeling lining up with my teammates singing the National Anthem wearing the green and gold," she said.
The next match was against the German side, where the girls lost 3-1.
"We fought hard all game and kept the score line much closer this time, and in this game I scored our only goal for the match," she said.
On the third and final day of the tournament, the girls had a match against Ireland, and came away with a 5-1 win.
"It was a good way to finish and I managed to put in my second goal for the tournament," she said.
The girls came away with the bronze medal, while the Australian boys side came away with gold.
"My time away was a fantastic experience, I met so many new friends from all over Australia, as well as from different countries," she said.
"The hockey was amazing and so were all the fantastic places we visited."
Thompson thanked her coaches both at home and those that were part of the team and School Sport Australia for giving her the opportunity.
"I need to thank my family and friends who supported me along the way with messages and by watching the live streamed games," she said.
"Thank you to all the local businesses who helped me on my way to Europe, it was greatly appreciated.
"I made so many memories both on and off the hockey field, my trip is something that I will always remember."
