Club Lithgow: Miscues v Jiggers
The Workies: Check Side v Tall Timbers and Pockets v Red Sox
Helmets having the bye.
The opening round of the John Zorz Trophy saw new team Check Side make an auspicious debut into the competition.
They beat Miscues 5 - 2 and they will have other teams looking over their shoulder as each week of the trophy progresses.
Tall Timbers had a real close tussle with Helmets winning 4 - 3 but they only scraped the aggregate point in by 12.
Jiggers have started out with confidence with their 5 - 2 win over Red Sox who at the moment are restricted to 6 players.
If anyone interested is in playing snooker then please come to either Club Lithgow or The Workies any Tuesday night.
Check Side v Hunter Mining Methods Miscues:
Logan Spice v Jeff Martin:
Spice was off and running early playing some very good shots and though Martin was playing well it was only in patches.
Spice continued his good form as he easily moved to the front and stayed there to win 73 - 45.
Denzel Nicholson v Matt Tattersall:
Nicholson from Bathurst is making his debut for the LASA but though being 15 has been playing top class snooker for a number of years.
Whether or not Tattersall took it easy thinking that Nicholson was not experienced we will never know because Nicholson made Tattersall really play hard. Nicholson eventually won 73 - 43.
Jack Bilby v Kevin Slaven:
Bilby had to give a 14 start and with the disappointment of not drawing his father he relaxed and that was his mistake.
Slaven was too good as he put Bilby to the sword 68 - 30.
Luke Morris v Garry Bender:
Morris is captain and the one who formed the team so the pressure was on him to perform from the start and he has not played for a couple of comps.
Both played very well and it took a while before Morris got into the swing of things and when he did he took the lead and was not going to be headed as he played a captains knock 69 - 41.
Mal Hewitt v Dennis Goodwin:
Goodwin just continued his form playing very well and Hewitt did play well but will improve.
Goodwin had two 18 breaks giving himself 36 points as he went on to win 63 - 37.
Aaron Vandermeer v Col Tattersall:
Tattersall virtually hit the wall as he offered no resistance as Vandermeer did nothing but wiped the floor with him.
Vandermeer put Tattersall into the 100 club by winning 104 - 40.
Players of the match were Denzel Nicholson and Dennis Goodwin.
Carpet One Tall Timbers v Lithgow Valley Storage Helmets:
Steve Hewitt v Brett Bradley:
Bradley is an enigma as when he plays well he goes very well and when he goes badly he's terrible.
Bradley had one of his very good games as he was not going to be denied this victory and after he scored a 27 break that was enough to take the game 88 - 48.
Frank Wawn v Robert Farnsworth:
Both were at their best though Wawn was playing the better.
Farnsworth put together a 15 break which was not enough as Wawn won the game 60 - 45.
Maurie Smith v Ian Miles:
Smith was at his best as he was playing well and was leaving Miles in his wake as he finally stood tall to win easily 69 - 23.
Howie Fisher v Dallas Thurlow:
A high quality game as they both traded blows and it was very close right until the black was potted.
Fisher was patient as he finally took the match 56 - 46.
Michael McCosker v Tom Drury:
This was a very good game with both players staying calm throughout and once the black went down Drury won 50 - 43.
Keith Morris v Dillan McBey:
As it turned out it was McBey who played well early and was in front all the way and Morris was doing his best to catch that lead.
McBey stayed solid to go on and win 42 - 30.
The players of the match were Howie Fisher and Brett Bradley.
Welch's Highway Smash Repairs Jiggers v C & W Printing Red Sox:
Dave Adams v John Lyons:
Adams certainly was distracted as he could only accumulate 10 points all game.
One the other hand Lyons was at the top of his game scoring a 16 break on his way to an easy 85 - 56 win.
Leon Rust v Jeff Stait:
Rust was on from the first shot and scoring freely and that put the pressure right on Stait who was doing his best to try and catch Rust.
Though Stait was playing well it was Rust who was just too good as he cruised to win 86 - 41.
Troy Clarke v Leo Keeley:
When Keeley did play his shots they were very good and were making inroads to the score.
Clarke had a quiet period and came good again at the end as he kept scoring easily in the long run and rattled up his biggest score to win 117 - 68.
Dylan Ford v Trevor Cameron:
Ford was missing a lot of shots and kept setting Cameron up and he took advantage as he easily beat Ford 88 - 59.
Sharnie Roberts v Tom Gaynor:
Gaynor played so well he took the lead on the pink ball and it came down to whoever potted the black they win.
All the hard work done by Gaynor was undone by a very good shot by Roberts who sank the black to win 65 - 60.
Greg Sutton v Garry Nolan:
Sutton did pot some good early pots but when Nolan got into his groove he quickly caught Sutton and the scores were level with only the black left.
Both had a couple of shots but Sutton was able to pot the black for a very close win 59 - 52.
The players of the match were Leon Rust and Trevor Cameron.
