Snow has fallen in Lithgow as the predicted falls arrived early on Tuesday morning.
Motorists are being urged to use caution as icy conditions continue on roads around the region. Numerous roads were shut around the district, particularly in the Oberon Shire as snow drifts settled but most are now reopened.
Motorists urged to reduce their speed and drive cautiously on the Great Western Highway.
Oberon Shire released a statement early on Tuesday afternoon advising all major roads were now open.
"Many of the smaller roads may not have been inspected and motorists are advised to use extreme caution in particular being mindful of black ice and to drive to the conditions they encounter," the statement said.
The Jenolan Caves Road was shut in both directions just off the Great Western Highway until almost 2pm. All roads in Oberon Shire were closed earlier in the day.
Chifley Road was closed from Lithgow to Bell due to snow and ice but it has now reopened.
Earlier in the morning, the Great Western Highway was closed in both directions at Mount Victoria, approaching Hartley Avenue, due to a jack-knifed truck. It has now been cleared.
A B-double had jack-knifed at Blackheath on the Great Western Highway at the intersection with Leichhardt Street earlier this morning. It has also been cleared.
The Bells Line of Line was closed in both directions due to a truck breakdown at Petra Avenue near the Zig Zag Railway. The truck has been cleared and the closure has lifted.
School's out
Many schools are not operating as normal today. In Lithgow proper, Zig Zag Public is closed, while Lithgow and Cooerwull Public Schools are running with minimal supervision and have asked parents to keep their kids at home.
St Patrick's Primary is also closed. La Salle Academy will be running with minimal supervision.
Lithgow High School is closed, as buses are not running. TAFE is open but with low staff numbers and students attending.
Wallerawang Public School has minimal supervision, as has Portland Central School. Hampton Public School is closed.
Meadow Flat Public School is open and fully operational.
