The current regulation states that all pistols, self-loading long arms, sub-machine guns or machine guns are to be rendered permanently inoperable
After listening to the concerns of the representatives, LSAFM president Renzo Benedet said Mr Elliot committed to create a new draft amendment.
"The meeting went very well," Mr Benedet said.
"Mr Elliot had previously visited the museum pre-election so he knew the place and what we were talking about."
"It was a very positive experience, he understood our concerns and that we are a learning institution, which makes us different from the pack."
According to Mr Benedet the group explained why they were opposed to the current regulation and that if they had to abide the law they would have to destroy over half of their collection.

"He seemed to understand and is now going to issue a new draft amendment to us and other museums," he said.
The draft amendment to the regulation is set to arrive in the coming week, and the LSAFM members will then review the amendment and provide feedback and comments for the minister.
"The Minister also wanted to understand the deactivation process a bit more, and what we would have to do to deactivate them and how much it would cost us," he said.
"We also spoke about security, and the guidelines they are after and what we can do to contribute."
Mr Benedet said they spoke about museums which had originally been impacted and tipped the LSAFM off about the regulation to begin with.
"At this point in time we are just hoping that this draft amendment will show what we spoke about with the Minister," he said.
"We will stay in close communication with the Minister and get an amendment passed through government that represents the best outcome for museums such as ours."
